Q:
|
Which version of Windows XP do I need? |
|
A:
|
You
MUST have your Windows XP upgrade to Service Pack 1 (SP1) for USB 2.0
to function. Without SP1 you would most likely receive error messages
such as:
"The Generic USB hub is a Hi-Speed USB device and will function at
reduced speed when plugged into a non-Hi-Speed port"
Or
"Hi-Speed USB device plugged into non Hi-Speed USB hub. A Hi-Speed USB
device is plugged into a non Hi-Speed USB hub"
After you have upgraded to Service Pack 1 (SP1); then you will have to
install the above driver for Windows XP SP1 to obtain the best
performance.
(*If you already have Service Pack 2 (SP2) or Service Pack 3 (SP3)
installed, you may just simply use embedded Microsoft Windows Native
Drivers.)

Q:
|
Why does my system detect the card as “VIA USB Enhanced Host
Controller” and not “VIA USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller”? |
|
A:
|
Basically, "VIA USB Enhanced Host Controller" and "VIA USB 2.0
Enhanced Host Controller" are exactly the same. They both are running
at USB 2.0 speed.
|
|
Q:
|
How do I know if my PC has USB 2.0? |
|
A:
|
You
can identify whether your PC has Hi-Speed USB 2.0 very easily. Just
open "Device Manager" and expand the "Universal Serial Bus
controllers" section. There should be any of the following shown with
"Enhanced" word in it; such as,
"Standard Enhanced....."
"PCI Class USB 2.0 Enhanced....."
etc...
Windows 98 systems may use a different name, because Hi-Speed USB 2.0
drivers in Windows 98 systems are not provided directly from
Microsoft. Windows Me, 2000, and XP gets their software driver updates
through Windows Update.

Q:
|
(PU222 & PU223)
After installing the PU222 or PU223 in an older system, why do my USB
2.0 devices still running at USB 1.0 or 1.1 speed?
|
|
A:
|
If
you are running the PU222 or PU223 in an older system that has USB 1.0
or USB 1.1 on the motherboard, you MUST first "disable" the USB
function under the Motherboard’s BIOS; i.e. disable the on-board USB
and only use PU222 or PU223 for all USB connections.
|
|
Q:
|
How do I know I have the right drivers installed? |
|
A:
|
Go
to "Device Manager" and expand the "Universal Serial Bus controllers"
section, you will see the following similar host controllers
installed:
USB Root Hub
VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller
VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller
VIA USB Enhanced Host Controller

Q: |
(UCC221)
Does Koutech’s IO-UCC221 support Serial ATA II hard disk drive? |
|
A: |
Yes. The IO-UCC221
supports Serial ATA II hard disk drive
|
|
Q: |
Do I need to
load/install drivers for Koutech’s USB 2.0 host controller card? |
|
A: |
All of Koutech’s USB 2.0 host controller
cards are Plug-N-Play card for Windows XP (service pack 2 or above)
32bit or 64bit / Windows Server 2003 (all edition)/ Vista 32bit or
64bit/ Windows Server 2008 (all edition)/ Windows 7 32bit or 64bit.
Therefore, it does not need to load/install any drivers. All of above
Windows come with NATIVE NEC USB 2.0 drivers.
The included drivers CD is for Windows
98SE/ ME/ Server 2000/ XP (service pack 1). These Windows do not have
built-in native NEC USB 2.0 drivers. In this case, you will need to
load/install the drivers from the drivers CD.
