SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Card-Reader FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions )
Q1: Why do the internal card readers (IO-RCM330, IO-RCM430, IO-RCM630, IO-FPM530,
IO-RCM730) only come with USB Type-A connectors and do not come with header-pin
connectors?
Q2: When I download from my SD/CF card, why is the speed the same as USB 2.0 card readers?
Q3: Where can I download the drivers for the card readers?
Q4: If there is no need to download the drivers, what is on the CD?
Q5: There are no icons. Did I install the unit correctly?
Q6: Why does the IO-RCM630 require two (2) USB 3.0 connections instead of
just one (1)?
Q1: Why do the internal card readers (IO-RCM330, IO-RCM430, IO-RCM630,
IO-FPM530, IO-RCM730) only come with USB Type-A connectors and do not come with header-pin
connectors?
A1: Not many people have the more expensive high-end motherboards that have
the 20-pin (Internal Connector & Cable; aka. ICC) USB 3.0
connectors/ports built-in on the board, and the older 10-pin header-pin
connectors/ports will only support USB 2.0 speed max. Therefore
our current models of internal card-readers have the USB Type-A
connector that are marketed towards the majority of USB 3.0 users now.
Q2: When I download from my SD/CF card, why is the speed the same as USB 2.0 card readers?
A2: The theoretical max speed of USB 3.0 is 5 Gbit/s. However, the transfer rate of the flash card will
never exceed the maximum speed of your flash card. If, for example, your SD card maxes out at 30 MB/s,
you will transfer at a maximum speed of 30 MB/s. In order to take
advantage of the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 performance, faster flash
cards are needed. You will be able to see significant performance
gain if you have a flash card that has a transfer rate of 60+ MB/s or
faster.
Q3: Where can I download the drivers for the card readers?
A3: No drivers are necessary for all of our models of card readers. Once you plug in the unit, your system will self-install
everything (Plug-N-Play). In Device Manager, the drivers will be installed in “Disk Drives” and “Universal Serial Bus
Controllers” or “Portable Drives”.
Q4: If there is no need to download the drivers, what is on the CD?
A4: The CD contains an icon program that labels the icons by the type of flash card you are using. Some
virus programs recognize the install program as a virus because it modifies registry files to create the icons. The program, however, is not harmful.
Q5: There are no icons. Did I install the unit correctly?
A5: If you have Windows 7, the icons will not show up until you insert a flash card into a card-reader slot
or a USB device into a USB port if there is a USB port.
Q6: Why does the IO-RCM630 require two (2) USB 3.0 connections instead of
just one (1)?
A6: One (1) port is for the card reader and one (1) port is for the
USB 3.0 pass-through port. This is a lower cost solution compared to our
IO-RCM430; the IO-RCM430 just needs one (1) connection since it has a
built-in USB 3.0 hub, which makes it more expensive.
